The Official Color Purple Trailer (2023) Released

We’ve all heard the saying “Don’t touch the classics,” but the newest waves of remakes of our all-time favorites may have us reconsidering that phrase. “The Little Mermaid”, the reboot of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, “Bel-Air”, and now “The Color Purple” are no different.

Warner Bros Pictures recently dropped the official trailer and its got us ready for Christmas in the summertime! The remake of the original, black classic is set to release on Christmas day. It is studded with the works of stars like Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Ciara, H.E.R, Aunjunue Ellis, Deon Cole, Tamela Mann and Fantasia Barrino, who graced the trailer’s track with her strong, beautiful vocals.

The 2023 version will put a melodic spin on the classic, acting as a musical adaptation of the novel by Alice Walker. Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders are joining Steven Spielberg as co-producers of the film, whose synopsis revealed it to be a story about “the life-long struggles of an African-American woman living in the South during the early 1900s.” The film will be directed by “Black is King” and “The Burial of Kojo” director, Blitz Bazawule.

Full of vocals, visuals, and vehement scenes, the trailer builds anticipation of “the bold new take,” as coined in the trailer, with emotional moments, flashes of dance numbers in bedazzled flapper dresses, and strong musical arrangements.

And as if the trailer didn’t pull on our heartstrings enough, the video of Oprah sharing a first look with a few of the cast members is sure to get you in the feels. The footage shows Burrino, Henson, Winfrey, Brooks and H.E.R all sporting matching white robes, sharing collective shrieks of awe, oohs and ahhs, and simultaneous deliveries of what I can assume were and will be iconic lines.

“You almost don’t want it to stop,” said Burrino.

Same, sis, same. It’s safe to safe, we cannot wait!

With a cast full of amazing, Black women with bold voices and esteemed careers, we’re sure to be just as wowed at the full film release on December 25th, 2023. See the full trailer here:
