The world is three years post-pandemic and it seems as though everything has returned back to normal. Traveling has resumed around the globe and “Black girl luxury” is at an all-time high. This includes traveling on a solo trip to your favorite destination. Whether that is in the states or in another country, I am here to guide you on the safest, top solo destinations for Black women.
With summer vastly approaching, it’s time to get those passports ready!
Costa Rica
Having traveled there myself for my first solo trip, I speak from experience when I say the beauty of this place is unmatched, not to mention I felt extremely safe as I roamed the streets of Puntarenas. Costa Rica is known for its beaches, breathtaking rainforests, and volcanoes. This place is no stranger to tourists from the U.S., so the locals are equipped to show you around and make sure you have a great time.
Cartagena, Colombia
This city is known for its colorful streets and colonial buildings with a rich Afro-Latina culture. It is located on the port of Colombia’s Caribbean coast where you will find some of the most beautiful white-sand beaches. In Cartagena, you are sure to have a historic experience paired with some amazing Colombian cuisine.
Bali, Indonesia
If you’ve seen the movie ‘Eat, Pray, Love‘, this island may already be on your bucket list. Bali is said to be the “island of the gods” that generates power and energy that leaves you feeling rejuvenated. It is ranked consistently as the safest destination for solo travelers. This land of Indonesia is known for its waterfall views, and spectacular beaches, and believe it or not, its nightlife is said to be the best in the world!
Ghana
This country is in its economic prime, with some of the best food and budget-friendly experiences to offer to anyone visiting. Ghana is one the most welcoming destinations for tourists, has excellent weather all year round, and is one-of-a-kind to explore. You’ll be able to play and swim with the elephants, enjoy other wildlife, and learn about Ghanaian history. It is home to the Cape Coast and Elmina Castle. Just like the other places on the list, Ghana is home to some exotic beaches as well. Please note you will need a Visa for entry.
Singapore
This Southeast Asia country comes in at #9 on every list of safest places to travel! I have seen many videos of the popular SuperTree Grove which looks like various scenes from the ‘Avatar‘ movie. Nonetheless, this city-state is also a tropical paradise year-round with some of the cleanest streets you’ll ever see. They have a thriving multiracial environment, welcoming all races. Black women feel at home.
These are just a few countries that scratch the surface of places to safely travel to as Black women. My honorable mentions are Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and Thailand.
If you have not had the chance to travel solo I highly recommend the journey, but make sure to do your research. If you are feeling afraid, and maybe that traveling outside the country is too much, I suggest easing into solo travel by booking a staycation or somewhere in the states.
We all deserve to experience luxury destinations in our lives! What are your favorite places to travel solo?
